Poor Lighting in Your Basement Has Great Potential

The basement is usually the most overlooked room in your house. Many homeowners use this room as storage. However, there is more potential for the basement than just being a moldy old room to store junk in. Since the basement is basically under the house it doesn’t allow in any or very little natural light. This in fact makes it perfect to be converted into a room where lighting is not a big deal.

Look at these great uses for your basement that requires little lighting:

A Bar or Lounge

Depending on what you want, converting the basement into a bar can be a simple project. On the other hand, if you want a real high-end at home bar, you will need to create a budget to ensure you get what you want at a price you can afford. Of course, you will need some light, but this won’t call for major installations or electrical work. Small fluorescent recess ceiling lights is one way to go.

You can even ensure that there is a work light in the serving area so the bartender will be able to see what they are doing. You will also need to put in a bar island or counter, shelves and stools. If space allows, consider putting in a television as well.

Game Room

This another good option for the basement. It is the ideal spot because it is away from the main living quarters, therefore its occupants can be as loud as they would like, and also play their games without being disturbed. The room can be set up as a video game playing area or even for pool. Let your imagination run wild.

Movie Room

Call it what you want, using the basement as a TV room is a no-brainer. The out-of the way location and dim lighting is just perfect. Install your television and surround sound stereo and you can relax in comfortable to watch your favorite movies. Add some pillows or cushions to the seating or on the ground for the comfort you want. Don’t be surprised if you end up falling asleep some of the times.

A Hangout Spot

This is a great idea if you have teenagers or invite friends over frequently. The hangout provides a great place for your teen and their friends to hang out in a safe environment.
