One of the hardest decisions in the whole kitchen renovation process is in regards to cabinetry; should you choose stock, semi-custom or custom cabinets for your home? Choosing cabinetry for your new kitchen is tough, because just by changing the cabinets you’re changing the entire look of the room. The choices are endless, and it can be difficult to make up your mind.

Your primary choices include stock cabinetry, semi custom cabinets, and custom cabinets. They range greatly in price from very inexpensive to very expensive. Take all of your options into consideration before you make your final decision. If your budget isn’t the only deciding factor, here’s what you need to know about each type of cabinets:

Stock Cabinetry

Stock cabinets are mass produced and they’re usually the cheapest of all three. The go-to place for stock cabinets is usually IKEA, since they have the biggest offer and are quite affordable. You usually get your cabinets in pieces so you need to set them up by yourself. They usually aren’t all wood and have standard finishes, and they come in standard sized 3-inch increments. The good thing is that they’re available for immediate purchase and installation.

Semi Custom

The semi-custom cabinets also come in standard 3-inch increments, just like the stock cabinets. The only difference is that customers get to choose their own finishes, hardware, and style. Time wise, you need to wait about 2 – 3 weeks for semi-custom cabinets. As for the price, it is a little bit more than you’d pay for stock but yet cheaper than custom cabinets.

Custom

These are the usually the most expensive cabinets, but again it depends on how much space you’ve got and the materials you choose to use. With custom cabinets you can choose any style, any finish, any design, size and color. You name it and the cabin maker will create it. As for the delivery time, you usually need to wait a bit longer since they are hand-crafted to your individual design.
